BIM-to-field FAQ
What size of model can I import?
Sitelink allows you to import large BIM files that you typically see on complex projects like mission critical, healthcare, high-rise, etc. We’ve successfully processed models as large as ~3GB, and are constantly working to improve performance and processing times for larger models.
How do I position my model on the jobsite?
We use QR codes to position the BIM overlay in its precise location onsite. To see your BIM overlay, all you need to do is scan any 2 of your existing QR codes onsite, and you’re good to go.
How accurate is the BIM AR overlay?
Our customers expect a high accuracy of the BIM AR overlay. Currently, our system achieves a level of accuracy typically ranging between 2-4 inches, through a combination of advanced algorithms, data capture, and integration with real-time location information. We continue to improve this accuracy through ongoing development.
How stable is the BIM AR overlay?
We use SLAM technology, which continuously tracks device position and orientation, to maintain a consistent alignment between the digital model and the real world.
Do I need to prepare my models in a specific way before importing them to Sitelink?
The short answer is no. We recommend dividing models into levels and trades for usability onsite.
What BIM formats are supported by Sitelink?
Sitelink currently supports the most commonly used BIM formats: .rvt, .nwc/.nwd, .dwf, .ifc, and .glb. We are continuing to add support for more model file formats based on feedback from our customers and Sitelink users.
